2019 Sailing Program

In 2019, there will be a wide variety of options for all ages and skill levels.  Check out www.okaucheesailing.org  to get all the details.  Coaches are US Sailing trained and interested in making sailing safe and a great overall experience.

This year’s program is expanded and has many new variations.

Getting Started?

Learn to Sail – Youth: Unsure where to start?  Sign up for the “Learn 2 Sail” clinic June 12-14 or August 12-14. Our US Sailing Certified instructor will introduce material in a classroom setting before heading out to spend time on the water. While on the water, sailors will receive group and one-on-one coaching to gain confidence on the water.  As the class learns together the instructors may introduce sailing adventures.  Follow up classes are scheduled to allow those interested to continue learning thru the summer.

Adult Lessons:  Again this year, the OLSS will be offering hands on sessions for adults who wish to familiarize themselves with the sport.  Class take place June 18-19. Includes sailing with experienced sailors.

420's: Perfect for any Middle or High School Student

Beginner 420:   There are lessons for novice sailors using our fleet of 420’s starting on June 17 in the mornings. .  It’s a great chance to explore the sport.  Never sailed?  No problem – you will start out as a crew with an experienced sailor.  Bring a friend.  It’s a social event.  All you need is a life jacket and an open mind.

For the More experienced

X Boats:  Lessons held for 8-16 year olds.  Lessons run throughout the summer, beginning on June 11.  Our sailors look forward to a larger fleet, great on lake competition and key regattas being run locally.  The OLSS has competitive X boats available for interested sailors.

Opti (IOD):   Lessons held for 7 thru 12 year olds.  Lessons run throughout the summer will be held for experienced or novice sailors (starts June 10).  Coaches will attend regattas with sailors.  The OLSS has seven IOD’s for use in class and races.

420 Racing: For the summer, the OLSS fleet of 6 420’s are reconfigured for spinnaker and trapeze sailing.  These classes are for more experienced sailors only.  Sessions begin in the evening on May 30.  The 6 OLSS 420’s may also be chartered by students for regattas.  Our double and triple decked trailers make transportation easy.   420 classes and competitions are real social events.  Check out the website.

Adult Mentoring:  In 2019, the OLSS will again leverage the skills of our top local competitors to assist local adult sailors wishing to enhance their competitive skills.  The approach will be for more skilled sailors to engage in mentoring with their understudies. There are also numerous formal presentations usually held in conjunction with OLYC social events.
